To paraphrase Sgt Pepper; It was thirty years ago (next month)... that I emigrated from Barnsley to work in London as a graphic designer. One of my first jobs was to design a quad for a film called The Glitter Dome. I had an A3 layout pad and some pencils and a vague brief of what the client wanted. No assets, photography, draw something. It didnt get used. My future mentor Brian Bysouth created the final, much better version. Since that autumn in 1984 to this one in 2014, creating film campaigns has provided me with a constant source of frustration, many sleepless nights, income and joy. I want to thank all the many good people whove encouraged and inspired me to keep on doing it. Not to mention all the people whove hired me. Im going to use this page as a blog and bit by bit give my own insights into why I find this niche area of graphic design so satisfying. Fellow companies and designers past and present that I love and/or envy, historical stuff about the industry, anecdotes, rememberances and some ancient pieces of work. Watch this space.
