"To see a world in a grain of sand, and a heaven in a wild flower. Hold infinity in the palm of your hand, and eternity in an hour.” - William Blake, Auguries of Innocence. *** An army of storm clouds gather on the horizon, a lightning bolt flashes, a shrub wavers in the wind. In "Portraits of Time" by South Korean artist Koo Bohn Chang, the windows to our imaginations are thrown wide open. One of the trail blazers of fine art photography in South Korea, Koo, who currently lectures in the department of video and photography at Kyungil University, draws inspiration from the imprints of human presence that constantly goes unnoticed. Adopting a minimalist and abstract approach, his works are often narratives of sublime beauty centring on the histories of living things and their eventual decay and disappearance. "Portraits of Time" is yet another manifestation of his existential concern with the mortality of Man and his relationship with cherished objects, animals and plants. Photographing specks of dust that have accumulated on the surface of a wall weathered by the forces of nature, the images are a poetic contemplation on a saying in India: "What we call the world, is really just an accumulation of dust." Find out what What kind of stories can these ephemeral traces of existence convey, in "Portraits of Time" currently on show at 2902 gallery till August 31.
