To the residents of Ward 12 and the City of Greater - TopicsExpress

To the residents of Ward 12 and the City of Greater Sudbury, What does a vote for Robert McCarthy mean? It means a number of things. It means a vote at council table to once again restore ethics and accountability from all councilors. This will be achieved by reinstating the office of the Ontario Ombudsman into council chambers. This also means using my vote to make the office of the Auditor General permanent and also create a permanent Integrity Commissioner to oversee all actions of all thirteen elected officials at the council table. It means using my vote to scrap the existing Healthy Community Initiative Funds (HCI) policy and find alternative means to distribute these funds instead of councilors using them as a tool to get votes in an attempt to get re-elected at election time. It means using my vote to make public transit more available and accessible to everyone, including an improved Sunday bus schedule and expanded service to areas currently not being served. It means using my vote to invest your hard earned tax dollars in our crumbling infrastructure and ensuring that it remains in the public hands and not sold off for corporate profit. It means using my vote to create a Youth Council in the downtown core of the City of Greater Sudbury, and throughout Ward 12, to ensure that the youth of our community have a direct voice in the decision making of their community and have the tools they need to reach their full potential. It means listening to the homeless and those living in poverty in our community, to their experiences and their needs, as the only people that know what is needed to help them get out of poverty are those that have experienced homelessness and poverty. It means supporting a Memorial to commemorate those who have died on the streets of Sudbury due to homelessness and poverty and to ensure that they died on the streets with dignity and their deaths are not in vain, including Indigenous Peoples and also supporting an annual Day of Action ceremony in the heart of Downtown Sudbury to commemorate those who have died due to homelessness and poverty, and have a plaque dedicated to those who have lost their lives as a result of homelessness and poverty. It means using my vote to fully support a use it or lose it bylaw for abandoned or unused buildings to be converted into affordable housing and supporting zoning rules that require low income housing be made available within new subdivisions. It means using my vote to stop the practice of the city giving out tickets to homeless people and people living in poverty for panhandling and to reverse the stigmatization of the poor and homeless in Sudbury. It means using my vote to call on the province to immediately raise the minimum wage to $14 an hour and index it to inflation. Like what you read? Then you know what to do!
