To the woman who moved away and abandoned her dog: I found your dog at the shelter today. We put the leash on her & took her out of her kennel. She walked me straight over to the gate that goes outside the shelter and looked up at me like, Thank God youre here. Lets get out of this place. She didnt want to move from that spot for a couple of minutes. I honestly think she knew that gate was the way out of there and she was so relieved to think that someone had come to take her home. Shes a wonderful, sweet dog and it breaks my heart to think that you moved away and abandoned her. I do not understand why you did not take her to the shelter where she would at least be safe. To just leave her there at the house… I dont understand it. When a dog comes into the shelter they are very confused and scared. Everything theyve ever known - the comfort of their home, their people, the food theyre used to eating, the schedule theyve been on, a soft bed to lay on - its ALL GONE. There is ONE THING an owner surrendered dog gets to keep… their name. By abandoning your dog instead of surrendering her to the shelter you didnt even give her the dignity of keeping her name. Can you imagine that? Being stripped of EVERYTHING, even your name? Can you imagine how scary & confusing that is for a poor helpless dog? That poor baby was so sad when we put her back in the kennel. I wanted to cry. So did she. PLEASE do not ever do that to another dog. :(
