To those of us who were ardent devotees of Bugs Bunny, this will come as no surprise. To the less initiated, it will explain at least partially why the wascally wabbit became such a hip cultural icon. [Bugs] set the principled rebellion of Emerson and Thoreau in a landscape of outrageous violence shaped by a theology of humor and payback. Director of many Bugs Bunny shorts Chuck Jones said, The only god I ever relied on was Mark Twain. And now think about how much more is actually going on in just this one-minute clip that always left quite an impression on me as a kid. Hip: The History is a riveting book. Now I better understand why Bugs Bunny was always my favorite cartoon.
