To those of you who are tired or bored with the ALS ice bucket challenge, I ask you this. Do you know what ALS stands for. It stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Now I ask you, do you have any idea what that is? Let me tell you, it is a disease that affects the nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. When this happens the brain no longer sends messages to the muscles. Therefore, you slowly lose the ability to move your body. It does not affect the brain, so while you are fully aware of your surroundings you are unable to participate in lifes events with each passing day. I have a very dear friend who has this disease. To see someone so full of life lose the ability to live somewhat... well it is heart breaking. My friend was told she had 2-5 years to live, that was 10 Years ago! She is struggling with this debilitating disease every day but she has never been more beautiful, powerful, or inspiring as she is right now! I love you Beverly Carlin! So perhaps, its not about dumping a bucket of water over our heads for some of us...perhaps its hoping every day one more person will learn about this disease and help find a cure!
