To those saying this cop murdered this person... If the officer had reason to believe that the man was a potential threat to other people(which he was and that was why the police were called) and/or was believed to be in possession of a concealed weapon, the officer had the responsibility of diffusing the situation while sorting things out. If you watch the video WITHOUT ignoring the facts, you see that the man began his attempt at evading arrest(for carrying a concealed weapon, whether the cop knew it or not) with an attempt to strike the officer. To say that his only option was to run, because he was carrying a weapon is way off. If he had no bad intentions, he could have notified the cop that he had a gun, instead of lying. That would have ended the situation. Forethought is completely lost here. From there, the guy was either carrying the pistol with the hammer back and one in the chamber, which is horribly dangerous...or he pulled back the slide while trying to get away, which shows that he intended to fire the weapon, not just hide it or put it back in his pocket. He only gets shot with his back turned once he points the gun, and the officer quickly and skillfully draws and fires. Its not a simple shot in the back scenario. Once the officer has been swung at and had a loaded firearm pointed at him by a man running from him, he has a responsibility to protect the public. What was likely to happen next? Was the guy gonna throw away the gun and give up?(he had shown this was not the case)...or was going to evade and try to find shelter, i.e. a nearby home or business? So just let a violent offender - who already attempted to assault a cop, and pointed loaded gun at him - run off into the community, or protect the people who could easily have become innocent victims in the surrounding area?? What if your family lived in the area and was being out in danger by this guy?? Standing behind the people that have obviously done wrong does nothing for ones plight, and diminishes the effect that the stories truly wronged have on change in our society. We should pick our battles using truth and reason...not the same preference that we are crying out against.
