To wrap up the archaeology and ecology camp at Deer Valley Rock Art Center, we played a newly designed game called Desert Survivor to simulate resource limitation and the effects of trade, cooperation and communication on group resilience. Kids played the roles of Hohokam or Patayan native people. Then we got to finish construction on our desert dwellings and test their thermal efficiency outdoors by trying to keep an ice cube inside from melting!
