Today 8.3.2014 feels just so weird. Its the day after the Anwar conviction and news of a missing Malaysian plane somewhere over Vietnam. It reminds me as to how I felt on the 6.5.2013 the day after the GE. Perhaps today is lot more worse in all honesty. The conviction of Anwar for alleged sodomy is just plain ridiculous based on prevailing judicial thought. I am no Anwar supporter for the record. However when the administration of justice appears to be manipulated and exploited surely we Malaysians ought to feel outrage. Without even going into the facts of the Anwar case immediate red flags are raised when one compares the treatment of certain other cases in this country. Altantuya a murder most brutal surprisingly no appeal lodged. PKFZ where the nation lost Billions of RM but no appeal again. WHY? Are these not legitimate questions to be asked? Anwar had been charged for sodomising someone against his will. What is so special about this case that it has to be appealed and handled in such extreme circumstances? Why the need for an Ad-Hoc Deputy Public Prosecutor? Is the AG saying that there is no competent DPP in chambers that work has to be contracted out? It is a routine Section 377 penal code offence appealed. We lawyers and DPPs do these kind of cases on a regular basis. Nothing so extraordinary about this Anwar case. On the facts sperm surviving in the anus of someone for about 3 days? Didnt go to toilet in that time? With due respect the human anus is not some kind of refrigerator to keep stuff in pristine condition. I dare say that if it had been any other Ali, Ah Seng or Samy the accused would have been acquitted without much fanfare. In fact I dare say that the appeal would have been disposed in 45 minute at the Court of Appeal. Yes I am upset. In my book the administration of justice in this country appears to be manipulated and toyed with. As a lawyer and being part of the system I am certainly most upset. Feeling helpless and unable to do anything is driving me nuts. Please dont tell me to go vote in 5 years time. The system has gone rogue and it is time we Malaysians seriously acknowledge it and do something about it. Question is : WHAT?
