Today I am so grateful for the work of Associated Ministries. I attended a Moment of Blessing at the horrific site of a domestic violence murder in our community, in front of a burned out trailer, where a woman was doused with gasoline and the place set on fire by her boyfriend. We stood at a small memorial shrine, and we prayed a blessing to reclaim this place of violence as a place of life, community and hope. The short service began with these words: ...in the words of Dr. King...darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that. May this truth guide our hearts and minds as we gather in this time of grief, acknowledging the tragic death of Maria Bazan, confessing that this tragedy is in part a failure to create a safe community that is humane, compassionate, and just. Lord, in your mercy...
