Today I called for a hearing at the Board of Supervisors to discuss equity and inclusion in our Citys hospitality and travel related industries. In 2013 the City benefited from a record 16.9 million visitors who spent over $9.4 billion and we expect these numbers to keep growing. However, several groups, particularly the African American community has not experienced the benefits of this growth or been able to adequately access these employment opportunities. A diverse group of civil rights, business, labor and community leaders have come together to develop concrete recommendations on how to enable more inclusion of African Americans in the hospitality industry. Thank you Theodore Benjamin Miller, Jon L Ballesteros, Amos C Brown Sr., Jacqueline Flin, Jo Elias-Jackson, Local 2 the Hotel Council and many more community leaders for working on this with me.
