Today, I had my monthly ikebana test. The visiting professor, Ms. Tsuji Setsuko, is well known for her Zoukei works -- sculptural ikebana. She has been the judge for the test many times before and is quite strict on her grading. For this months test, I had to do a freestyle arrangement. I had two materials, Stachyurus praecox (kifuji) and tulips. You can use them anyway you like. I had a branch soaring out of the container and then cut off all the little flowering stems and used them en masse to make it look like they were spreading out of the container. I used one tulip flower in the mass of brown and green for a little contrast. I also didnt use a kenzan to hold the branch up. I liked what I had done, but you never know what the professor will think. Well, she liked it, too. I got a 100 on the arrangement! Yea!
