Today I picked up a beautiful lab mix mama, scar all the way around her neck where at some point she had something embedded there. Im guessing she should weigh about 45-50lbs, she weighs around 25-30. Shes scared and scarred, but loving, broken but open hearted. Shes bearing the burden of feeding 9 babies, the tenth dying on my heart on the way home. I tried fluids, glucose, she took agonal breaths, I cried trying to breath life back into her and pumping her still heart. Andy telling me shes gone, let her go. Im tired of crying, Im tired of watching my friends cry. When in the hell are we going to step up and take responsibility for too many animals without homes? When do we quit electing politicians who are so damn wrapped up their slimey industrialized agricultural industry that they cant protect domestic animals with basic humane laws, pay our educators, protect our environment and provide services to the undeserved that will give them a hand up instead of a smack in the face?
