Today, I received a very interesting phone call from a gentleman who had read an article in the Citizen Tribune, about our “Riding With A Veteran” Fund Raiser. He told me that he was a WWII Disabled Veteran and former resident of Mountain Home VA Hospital. He spent the first half hour of our conversation reminiscing about the war and his old Veteran friends. He, then, expressed his gratitude for what we are doing with the funds raised by “Riding With A Veteran” and he asked that I extend his thanks to the Tennessee Veterans for the Ride, Meal and Entertainment they are providing for the Mountain Home VA residents on Saturday, July 26th. He told me how he and many of his Veteran brothers and sisters had spent many years, after returning from the service, taking care of fellow Veterans of WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He spent the last twenty minutes or so of our conversation expressing his sadness over the fact that the people of the U.S. had traded their Patriotism in for more self-serving agendas. As he continued to talk, his voice began to crackle and fade in and out but not before he thanked me for listening to him. I thanked him for his service and assured him that there were still a few of us who have not traded in our Patriotism.
