Today I want to highlight a very special Cottonwood veteran, Mrs. Emma (Emmie) De Haven Gleason Berger. Emmie was born on January 2nd 1920 and is a spry, alert 94 year old who served in the Womens Army Corps (WAC) in the European Campaign from 1943-1945. Emmie was selected to participate in a Honor Flight” traveling to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. on November 4th. Honor Flight donations paid for 100% of Emmies trip. Unfortunately, I was unable to accompany Emmie as she visited the World War II memorial, but a member of my D.C. staff met with her and presented a framed letter honoring her service. The letter will be inserted into the official Congressional Record which will forever document her heroic sacrifice.
