Today I was given a trouble call for Intermittent Internet. Arrived at house and looked at situation. Customer was not getting Internet speed they were paying for. Ran a new wire to the house and made sure all fittings were good. Signal to their ipad was still at or less than expected. Changed servers being used for speed test and still no go. Swapped the modem and added a router as the old modem was a combo modem and router. Still no go, in fact was slower. Tried another router, still slower. During this process my boss asked me if I had a magnet near the gps in my truck as it was showing off was going 30mph even though the truck was parked. After a few hours decided to pack it up and head home to come back the next day. On the way to my truck the customer explained they had talked to the neighbors parked behind where I had backed in and their Internet was or had been giving them issues in the past. Suddenly on the drive home it clicked in my head. The customers house is between 2 towers that have antennas blasting towards each other and the customers house is between these towers, that is what is killing their wireless network speeds.... Damn it is good to be a geek!
