Today, Im thankful for the heroes in my fathers generation, who made ultimate sacrifices for democracy in Taiwan. If it werent for them, there wouldnt even be elections in Taiwan. Lets not ever forget. Im also thankful to the Sunflower students, whose courageous occupation of the Parliament awakened the consciences of millions across Taiwan. Last nights election results was in many ways an answer to their call. To the surprise of all, despite the millions of dollars the KMT spent on their campaign, nearly all pro-China KMT candidates were voted out of office and replaced with pro-Taiwan candidates. Of the six major cities in Taiwan, FIVE cities now have pro-Taiwan mayors, including Taipei. Even Taichungs 13-year entrenched KMT mayor was ousted. Formerly staunch KMT strongholds switched to pro-Taiwan candidates for the first time ever. The KMT went from holding 14 cities and counties to now only 6 out of 22. Six! I am still shaking my head in disbelief. The people of Taiwan have awaken and our voice is getting stronger: We love our Formosa and we want to keep it free. Listen well, we Taiwanese refuse to be sold out to China! Ultimately, I am thankful to God, for from His hands come true justice and freedom. May God grant our recently elected leaders wisdom and strength to stay on the path of integrity and to not fall into the snares of corruption. God bless our Formosa. 天色漸漸光。
