Today Im thinking about the girl next door, who Ive known all my life; she and her husband bought her parents house, so shes been there 60 years. But 13 years ago she was at the WTC on one of the top floors. When the plane hit the first tower she said people were startled, but some just went back to work. Others, like her, had a very bad feeling about it, and they started to leave the building....I dont think they were out when the second plane hit, but she got out and started running, uptown. She said she and someone else got picked up by a truck driver who got them up maybe as far as Harriman, and eventually she was able to let people know she was ok. But shes not really ok. Shes the walking wounded, seems to stay indoors a lot. She feels guilty that she survived. And her husband will never forget the hells delight he suffered. So theyre on my mind along with thousands who made it but arent the same.
