Today James Maddix Jr. had surgery on his ankle. This is only a small part of the price he has paid for his service to you and I. Some things are past and there is more to come. Being a Dad I had multiple concerns. I have to see for myself that things are OK before I can have any measure of comfort in a situation. #1 Concern the surgery was being done in Downtown Detroit (V A). I trust no medical facility until I see it in action. I heard multiple concerns about short staffing. The overhead paging system was reminding people of a union vote that day. A conversation in the waiting room with another individual convinced me that James was not given proper instructions prior to going there. (The other person had made the same mistakes James made about admission procedures and where to report for surgery). OK not happy until after the surgery. The Doctor came to the waiting room to show Michelle and I pictures of his ankle. He pointed out exactly what was wrong and how he fixed it. I hope that Doctor stays there. Our troops need him. #2 Concern Michelle Rockhold Maddix could not come to Detroit until after her class due to a PIA Teacher who could fail her for non attendance. That meant leaving at 10 PM and driving by herself getting to Detroit around midnight to a place she had never been. Then getting up at 5 AM to spend the day with her husband. She had no real problem finding the place. Michelle was awake, attentive and cheerful this morning. I got more sleep and do not think I did as well. Way to go Michelle. Jimmys daddy is satisfied he is being well cared for.
