Today Somerset Conservatives plucked an obscure clause from the bowels of the Councils constitution to avoid having to discuss the Cabinet Member for Childrens role in the current crisis in Childrens Services. This allowed them to move straight to the next item, refusing point blank to allow any discussion. I have now nicknamed this The Cowardice Clause, for that is what it demonstrates, a cowardly approach to responsibility. No apology, no attempt at defence, nothing. Just a refusal to discuss serious issues. It was like watching a kid with his fingers in his ears, shouting Im not listening! Is this what we can expect every time we ask the Conservative administration a difficult question? If so, theres not much point in holding Council meetings at all. #shameful
