Today ZELA hosts community monitors, representatives of Community Trusts from Manicaland (Chipinge, Chimaninimani, Hot Springs, Save-Odzi, Marange) for a 1 day training on The Southern African Resource Barometer. The Training seeks to: • To raise awareness and promote community debate and dialogue at the community level on transparency and accountability in Zimbabwe’s extractive sector through the use of the resource barometer; • To advocate for the full implementation of the ZMRTI, EITI and the Africa Resource Barometer principles; • To empower local communities in using various social accountability measures and advocacy strategies in calling government, parliamentarians and mining companies to account for revenue use and management in the extractive sector or to play their oversight role. The resource barometer is a very important document that we think we can utilise effectively to ensure better resource management in our communities said one of the community members during the on-going training.
