Today, as my weekly classes walked out the door, I left them with this final thought: that I could teach them every day and never tire of spending time with them learning music. I knew it wasn’t particularly an original feeling – but it took a while to remember from where I stole it. It was Sir Alfred Tennyson . . . “If I had a flower for every time I thought of you...I could walk through my garden forever.” The man had a way with words. And in thinking of Tennyson, I thought of Vaughan Williams’ “The Lark Ascending”, a piece I could easily listen to every day and never tire of where it takes me.
