Today, at Woolworths, I saw a woman abusing her baby boy. The baby had crawled up to my feet and was smiling at me, blabbering away in adorable baby talk. The woman came up and punched this little boy in the head for bothering me. Everyone around me just looked away and pretended nothing was happening. In shock, I asked the cashier if there was security nearby. She averted her eyes and quietly murmured, I dont know love...maybe you should tell her not to do that. I found my senses and asked her for directions to the police beat, ran there and reported it. What disturbed the most apart from the despicable woman is that no one did anything. Everyone just acted like their own pride or politeness was worth more than the wellbeing of a baby. What have we got to be proud of as a society if we cannot overcome our self-interests for the safety and wellbeing of children? If we cant stand up for the most defenseless innocents, we have got nothing at all. Inaction really is humanities biggest downfall.
