Today, even though I wont hear Mike Reilly announce it, I will - TopicsExpress

Today, even though I wont hear Mike Reilly announce it, I will become an IronDoc. Wendi and I will be working in the medical tent at the finish line of the Ironman world championship in Kona. Well be standing by, as athletes come to the end of their long struggle. Many will collapse at the end of up to 17 hours in their race of 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run. Catchers will be ready at the finish line to scoop them up and bring them through the door to the tent. Weve trained this week, preparing to give them the best care, from just a place to rest and recover, a cool drink of water, to medications if needed. Weve even reviewed the possibility of natural disaster or acts of evil from a terrorist. As I read some verses this week, I was struck by this from Psalm 91, in The Message: Fear nothing—... not flying arrows in the day, Not disease that prowls through the darkness, not disaster that erupts at high noon. Even though others succumb all around, drop like flies right and left, no harm will even graze you. You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance... Yes, because God’s your refuge, the High God your very own home, Evil can’t get close to you, harm can’t get through the door. He ordered his angels to guard you wherever you go. If you stumble, they’ll catch you; their job is to keep you from falling. ... If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God, “I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!” May God be with us and those who serve today. May I be your hands, Lord, if I can be so bold to ask. May you protect those who race today as they suffer along the road. You know something about suffering. You are my refuge. And I rest in knowing that I am yours. Amen
