Today, had one of most incredible afternoons Ive had in a while. Went to the home of Nino and Sonia Ferrante, some friends of my mother and stepfather, who live in the hills overlooking Palermo. We were treated to a relaxed, 3 hour Sicilian lunch while sitting outside in the shade at a long table set up for ten. I dont usually take notes of a menu, but this was a keeper.. Primi: Spaghetti with sardines and pine nuts Secondi: White fish cooked two ways Salad of local greens with oil and lemon from Ninos garden. Vegetables - broccoli and zucchini with garlic Fresh Mandarancie (small oranges) grown in Ninos yard and fresh local grapes. Walnuts shaken from the their tree onto the table. Spicy Calabrian olives - (hot spicy like jalapeño) Peaches with gelato and almond and pistachio cookies. Vino Blanco - Principe de Corleone (excellent local wine) Espresso Then a game of chess that was graciously forfeited by the hosts 8 year old grandson - my chess skills are awful. :-)
