Today has been such a long day. At 3AM, my dad called to make Kristen and I aware of the inevitable fate we have been awaiting this whole week to hear. My grandfather, Avô Abilio Goncalves, took the last breath of his amazing life. For such a smaller, frail Portuguese man, he was one of the strongest people I have ever and will ever know. In hearing throughout my life the things he overcame, it seemed like a fairy tale journey from Portugal to here. He was an amazing parent, an awesome grandparent and yet so much more. I keep referring to him as the ultimate definition of the word patriarch. While he always seemed to be in the corner of the room observing the happiness everyone would enjoy, I know that it is what he strived and worked so hard his whole life to do; allow all of us to enjoy our lives. I can never imagine how to put into words how much he meant to everyone and most of all me. I do feel extremely blessed to have had him in my life and even more so lucky knowing he will be a guardian angel over my entire family. Thanks Avô for everything you ever did for us. I Love You So Much. Finally, while it hurts to say goodbye, I know you will always be here for us all as you have always been. Enjoy your eternal life in heaven where you belong free from pain and the struggles with the body you had here.
