Today in African Philosophy we were discussing epistemology/knowing. With the gracious assistance of IyaFalola H. Omobola I was able to integrate a rich discussion of intuition into the class. Modupe/Asante IyaFalola for your help! Intuition was framed within the context of Ori (the head, consciousness) and Iponri (the higher consciousness, a metaphysical consciousness) in the Yoruba cosmology. This conversation offered rich insights into indigenous African ways of knowing, and how the conceptualization and practice of holistic ways of knowing was an integral part of Yoruba culture.
