Today is Jailyns 1st day of Gifted for 2nd grade! Im excited for her and anxious to hear how today goes and how she likes her new teacher! Today is also the day I got to write a letter to her regular class telling them a little bit more about our sweet girl! Her teacher will read it aloud and J will hear it for the first time then too. This is the 3rd year Ive had to write this letter, for Student of the Week festivities and its hands down my favorite part of the whole week! I could go on for days ... September 3, 2014 Hello Butterflies! I’m sure you all already know this but Jailyn is one very special little girl! From the very first moment we laid eyes on her, we knew it too! Special, definitely but super silly too! She is always coming up with the craziest jokes to share with us. Some of them don’t always make much sense but it doesn’t matter because when she starts laughing you can’t help but start laughing too and by the time you realize it you’ve been laughing so long you’ve forgotten the joke altogether. She does come up with some good ones though and this is one of our favorites: “How do you get a tissue to dance? You put a little “boogie” in it!” (Hahaha) There is never a dull moment when J is around, that’s for sure! She is constantly making us laugh and giggle and she leaves smiles on our faces bigger than you could ever imagine! Her favorite game to play here in the house is definitely hide and seek and we play it at least once a week. Let me just tell you, she is the BEST at it! She always has the greatest spots. It takes us so long to find her and then when we’re about to give up we always hear this little giggle. Sometimes she even tries to throw her voice and try to convince us that she’s all the way downstairs when she’s really right by our feet, just under the bed. Her favorite hiding spot is inside our empty laundry hamper with the lid shut though and believe it or not, it always happens to be the last place we check! H’mm, maybe that’s why it’s her favorite? She really makes everything we do so much more fun. Jailyn has so many talents though, not just her super hiding ability! She is a beautiful dancer too! She started her 3rd season of ballet just a couple of weeks ago and we are already looking so forward to her recital next spring. If you asked her she would say twirling is her favorite! She LOVES to twirl! She twirls in the middle of the grocery store. She twirls in the bathroom while she’s brushing her teeth. She twirls in the kitchen while Mom’s cooking dinner. She hears any sort of music on the television and guess what? She’s twirling to it! Jailyn is also quite the artist! She draws something unique and beautiful almost every day. We also love to paint or draw as a family and spend lots of rainy afternoons doing so. We have a huge bin in the garage that is quickly filling up with all of her artwork. They are all too beautiful not to save and we are just so proud of how she chooses to express herself with a pen and some paper. Jailyn also loves to read and actually came home to tell me one day that she’d be okay of instead of outdoor recess, she could stay in to finish reading! She is a huge Harry Potter fan and we are reading the first book together as a family right now. She also has this heart … this amazing, sweet, gigantic heart tucked away in that little body of hers. She’s always thinking of what she can do for someone, how she can make them happy or smile. She never lets either one of us feel left out. If she’s handing out hugs and kisses, she’s making sure everyone gets their fair share and she’s the same way with her compliments! We think that’s what makes her a really great friend -- she likes to think of other people before herself. Never wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings, she always finds something nice and supportive to say… even when it comes to a not so yummy dinner courtesy of Mom! Now every year before school starts we always ask her what she wants to be when she grows up. Last year she wanted to become a fashion dress designer and the year before that a pet store owner. This year she said veterinarian for sure but if you were to ask her today she might say a famous dancer or a beloved artist. She’s constantly changing her mind and we love that about her. We want her to be everything and anything her brave and bright heart desires. We are so very excited and anxious to see what she actually grows up to be, who she grows up to be. One thing is for sure, whatever she decides, whoever she becomes – it will be remarkable, she will be remarkable.
