Today is MY anniversary. 52 years ago it was on this day I enlisted in the US Airforce. 32 years ago I retired from the USAF. I am greatful to have had that great experience. When I retired from that service, I worked in an electronic engineering company for almost 25 years. Those were great oppportunities available to me that helped me arrive at this time in my life. With Wendy, my wonderful wfe, we have reached a point that I hope will be available to those who follow. Now it was not handouts we acquired, we worked for what we earned. We put off some things so we could save/have some security in our Golden Years.. The talk of changing military retirememt because it is too generous or that there is no civilian equivalince in civilian life is bull! The only non equivalence is three remote tours away from family. Many TDY deployments away from family. Vulnerability to be deployed into combat zones at any time. Yes I enjoyed my time in and the great (continues to this day) people I met, was stationed with and maintain contact with over as much as 50 years ago, is priceless. But the impact on family and what the hardships of military life had on them means I earned every dollar I got while in or out. I earned the benifits I stll get from my service as well. I worked in a company (Still supporting the gov/mil) and saved for now. We are able to help some in our family because we are here. While I had opportunities, it was I/we who used them. So we did it the old fashioned way!. We earned it!
