Today is October 31, 2013 Verse of the Day -- Proverbs 19:13 A foolish son is destruction to his father, and the contentions of a wife are a constant dripping. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY God wants harmony in the home. MINI BIBLE STUDY FOR THE DAY In the Old Testament, a rebellious son was so despised that he could be stoned to death. If any man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or his mother, and when they chastise him, he will not even listen to them, then his father and mother shall seize him, and bring him out to the elders of his city at the gateway of his hometown. They shall say to the elders of his city, This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey us, he is a glutton and a drunkard. Then all the men of his city shall stone him to death; so you shall remove the evil from your midst, and all Israel will hear of it and fear. —Deuteronomy 21:18-21 It also confirms that it is impossible to deal with a nagging wife. He who would restrain her restrains the wind, And grasps oil with his right hand. —Proverbs 27:16 Today is no different as a foolish son is embarrassing and constant nagging by a wife is irritating. Combine the two and you will have a miserable life. But God calls us to harmony in the home. He wants our homes to be: Rooted in wisdom. Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars —Proverbs 9:1 By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established —Proverbs 24:3 Be trouble free. He who troubles his own house will inherit wind, And the foolish will be servant to the wisehearted. —Proverbs 11:29 Be noncontentious. The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands. —Proverbs 14:1 Be righteous. The house of the wicked will be destroyed, But the tent of the upright will flourish. —Proverbs 14:11 Be of an humble atmosphere. The LORD will tear down the house of the proud, But He will establish the boundary of the widow. —Proverbs 15:25 Be honest. He who profits illicitly troubles his own house, But he who hates bribes will live. —Proverbs 15:27 Be successful. Great wealth is in the house of the righteous, But trouble is in the income of the wicked. —Proverbs 15:6 Be a place of Bible teaching. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. —Deuteronomy 6:7 Be a place of peace. Better is a dry morsel and quietness with it Than a house full of feasting with strife. —Proverbs 17:1 compass.org
