Today is Veteran’s Day. I honor the sacrifice and convictions of many of our people who have served in the armed forces of a foreign government. It is my hope that their sacrifice for the United States will protect and further the interests of the Navajo Nation. I hope their personal sacrifice for the United States is not in vain. Yet, despite their sacrifice, our Nation remains hidden. Our interests remain ignored. And our quest to exercise our legal, political, moral, and cultural sovereignty is hindered at every corner by the very government for whom our people have died. I honor the lives of our veterans; I honor their service; I honor their bravery. I pray and hope their service resists the U.S.’ continued encroachment on Navajo sovereignty. I do NOT honor the U.S.! I honor the Navajo Nation.
