Today is World AIDS day. The theme of this years World Aids Day is Be Wise, Get Tested. The focus is mainly on men. However, government is calling on South Africans to get tested for HIV. There is an estimated 6.4 million HIV-positive people in South Africa, 2.4 million of them are on the treatment programme, the biggest in the world and the country is the worst hit by the pandemic. AIDS is not someone elses problem - its a problem we all need to be a part of - even if its just to know your status, be safe, support those with the virus, create awareness and realise that we are losing many of our loved ones to this disease. A friend or family member with HIV / AIDS is still your friend or family member.
