Today is the Birthday of Lauro Nyro - Singer-songwriter and pianist who released the album New York Tendaberry in 1969. She was a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 2012. She would sing with friends on street corners and in subway stations. She sold the song And When I Die to Peter, Paul and Mary. Although diagnosed with ovarian cancer, she lived to see the release of her double-disc retrospective CD put together by Columbia Records. Her bestselling single was a recording of Carole Kings Up on the Roof. She died in 1997.
