Today is the anniversary of the tragic Karachi Baldia Factory fire that burnt alive more than 270 workers, probably the highest death toll recoded in the history of factory fires. No amount of money can compensate the loss of human lives to their loved ones, however, to mitigate the grief, my friends Faisal Siddiqi, Advocate, Mr. Karamat, a social activist working for PILER along with support of many others, through their relentless efforts and hard work, have been able to ensure provision of a significant financial support for each of the families of victims of the tragedy. The cause of incident is attributable to the criminal negligence of the factory owners in failing to provide safe work conditions for it’s employees. While lives of any of the victims of the Karachi Baldia Factory fire we cannot be brought back, each one of us must perform our role to prevent such occurrence in future. That is the demand of our conscience and the hope for forgiveness from the victims of Baldia Factory Fire on the Day of Judgment.
