Today is the birthday of one of my Christian heroes. Polly Mimi Hilbert was truly a modern day Christian saint. This is my wifes grandmother, who passed just a couple of months ago. She would have been 94 today. Miss Polly taught me many lessons about what it means to love Jesus. She was unapologetic about her relationship with her Lord and shared freely about him to all she met. She was a caring woman and went to great lengths to let people know they were loved. In the last ten years of her life, she became a profound voice in my spiritual journey. She challenged me in many ways. It is a true honor and blessing to have had her presence in my life and her spirit will continue to influence my life. I will never forget the times sitting and talking around her table for Sunday lunch, or the times that she prayed for me as I cried struggling with life situations. I loved how she would hold my hand and tell me how proud she was of me. It meant the world to know that this godly woman thought that about me. I would like to thank my wife, Whitney Davis and mother-in-law Beverly Self for allowing me in your family to be able to know this great woman. And to these two great women, in every interaction I have with you, I see the best qualities of Mimi shine through you both. Im so thankful to have her heritage in my family and that those same sweet, bold, humorous, energetic, and adventurous characteristics will be passed down to my daughter. So to my hero in the faith, Miss Polly Hilbert, happy birthday and you are greatly missed. I love you and know you are loving being with your best friend Jesus.
