Today is the day after we celebrated our Independence Day. We wish - TopicsExpress

Today is the day after we celebrated our Independence Day. We wish to be “…one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,” but there are those who wish to be otherwise. I am an American. I do not separate by color, heritage, worship or kinship. Others wish to hyphenate their existence for reasons of their own, creating a division. Others wish to impose their own language and forget that Americans speak English. Both have their rights under the 1st Amendment of the Constitution upon which we are formed. However it goes against Americans and Americanism, and those seeking divisions can only find it in “them.” Don’t force it upon me as I have my rights, same as we all. Division is within. Short, tall, thin, large, male, female, child, we’re all Americans and too much blood has been spilled to bring this experiment in self rule to shine as the envy of the world to let those try to divide for self gain against this foundation and growth. Ignorance divides. Intelligence unites. Working together we can develop, share and grow. Divided we lose that connection. As Americans we were asked “…not what our country can do for you, but what you can do for your country,” and “judge not on the color of one’s skin, but the content of their character,” by very wise men. Flawed yes, as we all are, but wise nevertheless. Let us go this day and every day forward guided by the wisdom of our founding fathers, our Declaration of Independence and subsequent Constitution and Bill of Rights. If not, then how are we “Americans,” and for what did we celebrate?
