Today it is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. A good day to tell everyone, Dutch and non-Dutch that I am very much disturbed by the statements of the Dutch politician Geert Weelders and that I dont feel comfortable in a country where a big group of people vote for a politician that says he will personally assure that there will be less Maroccans in The Hague. (as a part of his campaign for the municipal elections) He hates being compared to Hitler, but the similarities are scary. Pointing out a certain population in a time of economical inflation is exactly what Hitler did. The difference is that Wilders is pointing out Maroccans instead of Jews. Wilders claims to be there for the Dutch, but I, with my 100% Dutch blood, feel extremely sad that this apparently is the new normal in Dutch politics. I want to be able to be proud of my mother country. So, Wilders, if you want to be there for the Dutch, like me, make me proud of my country, a country where everyone will be accepted, no matter race or religion.
