Today, its been exactly one year since I experienced the best thing thats ever happened to me. No, this isnt a post about a cute baby or a wedding-- but with the reference level Ive developed in my short 16 years of life, its a pretty big deal. On August 14th of 2013, we were given the opportunity to open for Nothing More, a band whose music has brought me overwhelming amounts of joy, held my hand through difficult times, helped me to solidify my philosophies on life, and inspired me during a time when my creativity and ambition seemed lifeless. (Maniacal Mojo Records, I owe you so much for arranging this. Thank you thank you thank you.) On that day, the reason why I play music became very clear to me. As I felt the impact of Paul OBriens kickdrum in tandem with Daniel Olivers punchy and prominent basslines, both surging through my chest like something more powerful than a heartbeat, alongside guitarist Mark Vollelungas full, seething rhythms and soaring leads, tied together by the thought-provoking and moving lyrics that accompany Jonny Hawkins quirky, yet soul-stirring and powerful vocal-- I thought to myself, If I could make one person feel the way I feel right now, my lifes work would be finished. I wont stop playing music, just for that minuscule possibility that my music could one day breathe this kind of life, hope, love, and inspiration into others. So... yeah. That was sappy as all get out. Im sorry, I just really love this band. I love them more than pizza and ice cream. I had to let some of my gross sentimentality loose. I didnt think it was possible for a memory to be so meaningful that every single time I think about it, Im immediately uplifted. Thank you so much to everybody who made that night happen, and everyone who experienced it with me. Cant wait to see Nothing More throw down with Five Finger Death Punch on October 14th.
