Today marked the 70th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944, and there is no better place to be reminded of the sacrifice and to pay our respects than on the beaches of Normandy. On this day in our nations history a generation was faced with a daunting mission - to place the collective notion of freedom and democracy above all else. As Darleen and I walked the American Cemetery lawns this morning at Omaha Beach, we were in awe of these bold men who fought so bravely during WWII - and we were humbled to hear the stories of Veterans we met at todays commemorative ceremonies. We will forever owe them a debt of gratitude for how their deeds paved the way for our great nation and world we live in today. We will never forget!
