Today marks day 25 post op and Savannah is doing fantastic. During the first week after surgery Savannah had a hard time sitting up unassisted. Since then she has hit some pretty major milestones such as tall kneeling, standing, and walking forward, backward and sideways while in between the parallel bars. Myself and the doctors and therapists are celebrating, but Savannah is still feeling very down because to her this means nothing. She could do all of these things before surgery, so to her she just feels like a baby in her words. I try to explain to her every day that this is all for the better in the future, but as you can imagine, that is hard for a nine year old to really understand. Today Savannah walked on the treadmill with the PT helping to guide her right foot to stay straight forward. She was able to walk for 4 straight minutes at a semi-slow pace and her gait is improving significantly day by day! Savannah is weak on both legs, but the right is noticeably weaker than the left. We will continue to do exercises to strengthen both legs until our last day next Thursday. From there we will start with our schedule of 5 days a week of physical therapy when we are back in Spokane. Boy, what a difference a couple of weeks has made with the progress that Savannah is making. I was full of regret for doing the surgery, but I am starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am so grateful for the doctors, therapists, nurses, and families here at the hospital. This is an experience I will never forget...the good and the bad. Thank you for following along with us
