Today marks the passing of a grandfather I never knew, Anthony Schmaus. He was killed by a drunk driver when my dad was about 15. From what I understand, he played violin and just about anything hed get his hands on. In the WWI, he was drafted. The story goes that the registration people said, Youre a musician, it says here. Can you play a saxophone? Sure, he replied. They got him one and said, Report to _______ place and audition for placement. He stayed up most of the night figuring it out, slept a bit and went in and nailed it. He figured, Ive got a family of five,,,,,,,I can carry a horn or a rifle. More on the Shamoken Valley, PA Schmaus family history as I unfold it for you here. Find out why my brother and I sometimes dont play Scrabble with all the letters. You think you know - but you have no idea.
