Today my family lost another one of its patriarchs. My Godfather/Grand Uncle, was one of the men that I looked up to throughout my life. He showed me the true meaning of being a man through his actions and his words. He was a loving individual who always welcomed me with a beer, a croqueta (the best I ever had) and a joke (they were often corny, but made me laugh). He proudly wore the tag of Chino Pangaleta that we gave him as children (I have no idea what that means), and used to always make me feel at ease. That is the man that I knew. I recently learned that he was also a man who was proud of his role in defending the Cuban state as part of the army that oppossed Castros forces. He did his job as a soldier and recently recounted his suprise at surviving the new governments military tribunals. Andres Bermudez, you will be missed but your legacy will love on in your child Mercy Naranjo, as well as your grandchildren Joanna La Cubana and Jennifer Naranjo. I will hold you in my heart and try to be half the man you were to me.
