Today my father celebrated his 90th birthday in Scotland. He is an amazing man. On D-day he was a Royal Marine on a landing craft going into Normandy and two weeks later received a shrapnel wound to his left shoulder which ended the war for him at age 19. At 26 he contracted tuberculosis and was told that if he ever smoked again he would be dead in 5 years and that if he didnt he might live until he was 65. The doctor that made that statement has long since died. Dad is my favorite teacher, though when I was a teenager I was too stubborn to listen to most things. Fortunately I have paid attention to him for the last three decades. He was in Logan a few years ago to watch me finish my 100th marathon. Dad is in good health and has many more years ahead of him. Happy Birthday Dad !
