Today my heart is bursting with happiness but also stinging a bit. Someone I have loved and has loved me since we were both awkward adolescents is finally getting married (bursting heart!) and I am not there (stinging heart). He and his soulmate are converting their civil union to a marriage. They will be one of the first, if not the first, couples in the UK to take this beautiful step toward equality. I am supposed to be in London right now. Because of a dental emergency and other strange happenings on both sides of the pond, Fate has seen to it that Im in Texas instead. Your gift is ready, my toast prepared but those will have to wait a bit. Instead, please know today I am celebrating that what is just and right has won and that true love has triumphed. You have both taught me by example how real, unconditional love should be, that it actually does exist and that we are all deserving of it. And I adore you for that.
