Today, my youngest son turned nine. This is an age that Michael Bergner never turned. He died in a Nazi Concentration camp in 1943 when he was eight years old. Michael was my Grandfather Georg Bergners kin and part of the Jewish branch of the Bergner family tree that had not become Lutheran. Today, Jews in Ukraine are being harassed and intimidated. In 1933, Nazism became an official party of the German Parliament with only 36.8% of the vote. Nazism slaughtered its way into power when Hitler had over fifty members of Parliament assassinated, after President Paul Von Hindenburg (a faithful Christian) died in office in 1934. Under more intimidation, the Parliament cowered as Hitler illegally ascended to the Presidency, without any political process. The West watched, not wanting to get involved. Nazi Germany took from me the man who should have been my Father, and replaced him with a husk of human being, who lived in suffering and fear most of his life. Were it not for moments when my Father allowed Jesus to touch him, I would have never seen his true-self; a loving human being made in the Image of God.
