Rafael Nadal beat Novak Djokovic 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 to win the US Open, Nadal has won at least one major each year for the last nine years and it looks like he has a good few years still to play. Trivia buffs would like the unique fact that Serena Williams and Rafa Nadal are the only male-female pair to have won all the Grand Slam titles together as they did this year at the US Open. They won the French Open together this year too, the Australian Open in 2009 and Wimbledon in 2010. The other sport story was Hashim Amla’s impressive wins at the Cricket South Africa Awards last night, he won four of the five categories he was nominated for including Cricketer of the Year; Test Cricketer of the Year; SA Fans’ Cricketer of the Year and the ‘So Good’ award for his historic triple-century in The Oval test against England, the only one he did not win was the ODI Player of the year which went to AB de Villiers. bit.ly/17O6HJC For some fun the #YouAreSingleBecause had plenty of submissions some clever and witty while many were just nasty. Twitter is a great platform for crowd sourced humour, but there are plenty of trolls who spoil the intention by trying to shock or simply lack the ability to post anything constructive. That is not to say comments can’t be edgy, but you need not look too far to find someone willing to step over the line. A female user tweeted, “#YouAreSingleBecause instead of cooking like your mother, you drink like your father” while another posted, #YouAreSingleBecause your Facebook name is something like Lequanda ‘IDontNeedAMan’ Johnson”. The odd story of the day comes compliments of Dennis Rodman who caused a stir after a visit to North Korea in February, he held a press conference after returning from a second trip to say he is arranging a basketball tournament with North Korean players and that he will be training their Olympic basketball team. He announced the event using the #BasketballDimplomacy.
