Today the Denver Post published this never before seen video of a high speed chase that resulted in the death of Evan Ebel, the primary suspect in the murder of Colorado Department if Corrections Chief Tom Clements and a pizza delivery man by the name of Nate Leon. It is compelling yet disturbing. Ebel committed a heinous crime and the families of his victims deserve all of our sympathies. The police in Texas did all that they are supposed to do to protect the public at large. They had no other choice but to kill this man, and I suspect this was a classic case of suicide by Cop. But before people condemn this criminals soul to hell, consider this: he was held in solitary confinement up until 2 weeks before his release from prison. While that was no excuse for his behavior, In essence the state played a part in creating a monster, and this was the inevitable result. I think we should all ponder if we are actually going about the right way in treating prisoners and the mentally ill in the way we do. I am not sure the State needs to sanction the creation of any more monsters,
