Today, the Orang Asli below called to tell me that the police have come over to take them to Gua Musang Police Station for taking down their statements. They asked whether it is OK for them to follow the police. I told them that it is important to cooperate with the police and they shouldnt be worried about it. I thought the police are taking down their statements following their visit to Bukit Aman to complaint about the inaction of the police in Lojing despite their police reports on being beaten up by Myanmar workers. Tonight, 3 of them are in police lock-up. I was told by the police upon calling them that they are being investigated for rioting!! I am so angry that the police have lied to these orang asli in order to get them to the police station under the wrong pretext. I feel worse because I told them it is OK to go with the Police. Sgt Kamaruddin has confirmed that the three have been detained for further investigation under section 128. Apparently, this is on the order from the Kota Bahru IPK. According to him, the 3 had their statement recorded after the incident, but the(new) arrest was instructed by Kota Bahru. 14 Myanmarese are already detained, according to Sgt Kamaruddin, and remain in detention. The investigating officer is ASP Hj Hashim. Have not been able to get hold of him. Sgt. Kamaruddin is aware that the Temiars have made a police complaint at Bukit Aman but says that the latest action is on the instruction on Kota Bahru IPK. Not sure when they will be released. I suggest that the media be informed of this development. And Both Bukit Aman and Gua Musang police be contacted by several of us, if only to show them that we are watching this case. This is beyond the pale to treat the victims of a violent crime in which 2 of the Orang Asli have 7 and 15 stitches on their head respectively.
