Today was a 6 hour marathon at the Museum of Modern Art, then I - TopicsExpress

Today was a 6 hour marathon at the Museum of Modern Art, then I went to my drawing class. It was hopeless to try and draw as I was exhausted, so I decided to sneek out during the model break. As I was making my get away the teacher returned and caught me. Busted! He accepted my apology and understood. The museum was incredible even if I do not understand or even like some modern art. One thing I learned was that I really do not know my art history very well. I “get” what Picasso and even Jackson Pollack were doing, but I cant get my head around some other very famous pieces. AND I dont even want to understand some of the “contemporary” artists. I cant figure out how or why their work even became museum worthy. There was a special exhibit by Gauguin that was extremely interesting. I had no idea he was such a carver and a print maker. He discovered a drawing process called “oil transfer” that I am going to try when I get home. So many famous paintings! Van Goghs “Starry Starry Night” for one. (I got in trouble from the guard while viewing that one. Evidently I was too close.) There was one room with two of Monets giant water lily paintings. Simply breath taking....sigh. The room was very crowed and the viewing benches were full. I counted 17 people sitting there that were using their phones and not even looking at the paintings! What is that all about? It was an overcast day today, but still warm and muggy. I couldn’t understand why everyone was wearing jackets and over coats. TIP OF THE DAY: If you chat with women that look like they shop at Bloomingdales you can get a very frosty and disdained glare. Perhaps it is the red plaid shirt because it happened yesterday too. 31.media.tumblr/tumblr_lg7spjBHxs1qaa7o3o1_500.jpg
