Today was a day that makes me happy. It started off with lunch with an old student who just got out of the Army. John Douglas Kroft served as a military policeman in Germany, Afghanistan, and at Ft. Rucker , Alabama. John served as a combat MP in Afghanistan and also served as a Law enforcement officer. During his career he attended Traffic Accident Investigator course. John is on terminal leave now and he is using his GI Bill to get his degree in English education starting in the fall. I am very proud of John for his service, sacrifice, honor, and his plans for continued service to his community. John has gone from a teenager to man, a warrior, and now a brother since we both Served in the Military Police Corp, Of the Troops, for the Troops. As I was picking up Emma at her School, Morning Star School of the Diocese of St . Petersburg, i see another student who was in my Politics club at Zephyrhills High School, Steven Chuck Dornquast, a Deacon with the Diocese. Chucks nickname in school was The Pope, and he got it because of his faith, his commitment, strong moral compass, and his dedication to god. After graduation he attended the Seminary in South Florida. Now he will be working at Most Holy Redeemer in Tampa, Florida during the summer. Today during morning mass which my daughter Emma attended, Chuck said a prayer to the parish. I have always admired Chuck for his faith and commitment, I am so proud of him and honored to have him mold my daughters faith. This is a big compliment coming from me since I am an Atheist, we will be spending some time each week taking Emma to mass during the summer break, and I plan on attending too. At times we all fear for the future but more and more I am less worried, these are just two students of mine, many of my other students are now chefs, soldiers, sailors, marines, law enforcement, health care, IT, parents, teachers, pilots, Mayors, work in corporate America, correction officers, nursery school teachers, guidnace counselors, to name a few.
